CHS is constantly sourcing new business houses and local partnerships to host our students in the following programs:
Yr 11/12 VET Work Placement
Yr 11/12 students undertaking a VET course need to complete a compulsory 35hrs of Work Placement in the industry which they are studying. VET Courses running at Coonamble High School are:
- Business Services - Construction
- Hospitality
- Information Technology
- Metal and Engineering
- Primary Industry
- Retail
Students undertaking this program have had some experience in the field and during work placement practice and extend specific industry skills that they have learnt during their courses. Students are not paid for this program.
School Based Traineeships/Apprenticeships
School based traineeships/apprenticeships allow senior high school students to commence a traineeship/apprenticeship while at school. While studying for their HSC, school-based trainees/apprentices work part-time and undertake their normal (off-the-job) traineeship/apprentices training as part of their HSC. This is a paid program and requires the employer to be committed for a 2 year period, hosting the student one day a week, or for a minimum of 100 days.
Road to Work/Work Experience
Road to Work is a program whereby students can be introduced to the ‘world of work'. Work experience participants generally have had none or very little experience in the work force and are there to observe and undertake supervised work to their skill level. Road to Work can either be one day a week for a term, or one full week. Students are not paid for this program. There are also many benefits to you as the employer including:
- Participating in the education, career development and vocational training of young people in the community
- Talk to students about your industry, its career paths and future directions
- Promote the attitudes and skills you want and are seeking in your workforce
- Identify young people with potential for you industry
- Strengthen your links with the community and raise your business profile
- Increase the supervisory, training and mentoring skills of your staff
- Give students the knowledge of the value of work and raise the quality of those coming into your industry.
If you, or someone you know, may be interested in hosting one of our students please contact Lyndy Regan or Tahnee Cullen to register your interest. We will then endeavour to match suitable students to meet your needs.
